Cakes are indispensable in any occasion and if it is a birthday, I guess cake is the first thing on our list. Baking a cake, its design and decoration, flavour and ingredients are one part of the mise-en-place. The final look of the cake solely depends on the cake topping that we choose to complete the cake.

Cake toppings could either be in the form of toys or anything comic that is edible. For example the various cartoon characters or any creature that the kid is fond of and the like. The toys could be kept aside as memories once the birthday party is over or could also be collected as playful items for the kids.

The toys used as cake toppings can be made of plastic or wax or thin wire or acrylic or any kind of art paper. If it is edible normally icing sugar is used to create all the fancy funny shapes.

For kids it is not difficult to imagine anything ranging from superman to Dracula…provided the idea looks and sounds real. As such, birthday toppings find an equal share in the loops of their apertures of exotic imagination. It is fun to create all sorts of figures, give it a surreal name and present it like Mr. Universe!

If you are looking forward to having actual fun creating cake toppings for kids, try poking their thought process. Try asking them as to what their idea would be if they had the liberty or authority to create Spiderman, James Bond and perhaps certain fairytale creatures like sea-horses or real ones like dinosaurs!

How I wish if I could remember my first birthday celebrations! Well no human being is so fortunate and so I guess god sent Mamma-Papa and helped them with the invention of a camera. Now all they have to do is c-l-i-c-k!

First birthdays are always special. After all; the baby is entitled to a candle on the cake for the rest of his/her life. Though the kid has no clue what the cake or the topping is all about yet with time it becomes a part of the fondest memories of his lifetime.

Ideally, for most parents’ first birthday cake toppings is either related to the gender of the baby or is seen to have a similarity of some kind with the kid’s behaviour or more importantly gestures.

I’ll make it clear with an example. Say if the baby is a girl, most parents would choose something like a Barbie or a mermaid as an ideal cake topping. If the baby is a boy it would then perhaps be a Pokeman character or something similar.

Talking about behaviour or gestures, if the baby is seen to be very chubby perhaps a pumpkin would be a good topping! If the cheeks are bright red…you guessed it! It would be cherry and roses all over!

Well the ideas above are few set of observations. They could or mostly would be different. Cake toppings are chosen to give an identity or impart a personality to the cake. It just keeps the fun factor intact!
