Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol is a timeless classic novel. This book was first published in 1843. It gained success soon after its launch. This novel is so popular that it never been out of print since its release. The author shaped the novel mainly on the humiliating experiences of his childhood. The book is also inspiration for many feature films. It has also been adapted for other media’s like radio, television and stage.
The plot is based on the deeds of cruel money lender Ebezener Scrooge and three ghost who reveals his misdeeds and the ultimate result for his cruelty. The tale begins on the Christmas eve, seven years after the death of Ebezener Scrooge’s business partner. That night the spirit of his business partner, Jacob Marley appear face to face with Scrooge and warns him against his cruel acts.
Later on the same night, Ghost of past visit Scrooge and takes him back to his school days where he studied. At that time he fell in love with a girl and promised to marry her as soon as he has enough money but forgets everything when he parts with her.
The second one, Ghost of present shows him how others are are enjoying and having fun on the Christmas and how his family is not even cracking joke in his presence. The Ghost of future reveals to him that in future after he is passed on everyone will be delighted. The local businessmen will attend his funeral only for free food.
After listening to the Ghosts, Scrooge becomes a changed man and decides to act with kindness and peace. In this Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol every plot is beautifully described so that reader can create an image of the characters as it is. The novel written so well also helps readers to visualize each and every scene in their minds.
Apparently the novel is meant for children, but beneath the simple story one can see the Dickens urge for human to be kind and realize that behind this cruel world a nicer one also exist.
