Cheese Grits Recipe for Christmas Breakfast

Christmas is festival of joy and it has its own meaning for each person. Christmas for most of the people is a festival of togetherness when all the members of the family no matter where they are and how busy they are, unite. On this special occasion every lady of the family tries to prepare something special starting from breakfast till the dinner. The breakfast you prepare should be simple and special. You must ensure whatever menu you plan for the Christmas breakfast can be done quick, may be in half an hour or so. One of such recipe is Cheese Grits. The main ingredients for cheese grits are:

  • 2 cups full milk
  • 2 cups of water
  • 4 tbsp no salt butter
  • 1 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 4 ounces shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup crudely floor cornmeal
  • 1/2 tsp freshly crushed black pepper

Procedure to make cheese grits:

1. Add water, milk and salt together in a deep vessel. Keep this vessel on the gas stove on a medium heat. Bring the mixture to boil.

2. The moment the mixture starts boiling start adding the cornmeal slowly and gradually into the milk mixture. While adding the cornmeal keep stirring the mixture, so that the corn won’t make lumps. Repeat this procedure till the cornmeal has finished.

3. Now you can cover the vessel with a lid. Keep mixing the mixture after every 3 to 4 mins to avoid making lumps and sticking on the bottom and sides of the vessel.

4. You need to cook this mixture for about 20 to 25 mins.

5. Remove the vessel from the gas stove and add butter and pepper into the mixture. Mix well.

6. Keep whisking the mixture till the time the butter is melted completely.

7. Now add the cheese slowly into the mixture and keep whisking.

8. Once all the cheese is added and stirred properly serve the cheese grits hot.
