Christmas at Raby Castle

Raby Castle is one of the finest and grandest medieval castles in Britain. It was originally built by the influential Nevill family in the 14th Century. The Castle remained with the Nevill family until 1569. In 1569, after the Rising of the North failed, the castle and its lands were taken over by the Crown. Sir Henry Vane the Elder purchased Raby Castle in the year 1626 and ever since, it has remained in the Vane family.

Raby Castle has been home to the Lord Barnard family since the year 1626. The Castle is at the heart of the vast Raby Estates, which is a sprawling expanse spread across Teesdale, County Durham and Northumbria.

One of the major attractions of the castle is the Raby Castle Christmas celebrations which transforms the entire estate into a magical place.
