Christmas in Argentina
If you have been to Argentina at the time of Christmas then you would definitely know what ‘Feliz Navidad’ means. But for all those who want to visit the country at time of Christmas should know the meaning of this world because it means Merry Christmas. Argentina is a South American Christian country and as it is a Christian country Christmas is one of the most important festivals.
Over 92% of people living in Argentina are Roman Catholics and that is why religious services take most of the time of the Christmas day. But most importantly Christmas is one time when each and every person of the country enjoys to the core. The weather in Argentina is warm and cozy at the time of Christmas which makes it even more enjoyable for the people living in the country and visitors alike. Like most other countries the festival is celebrated with gifts and decorations in Argentina. But there are some unique features of Christmas in Argentina some of which are listed below:
- It is true that people all across the globe decorate their houses at the time of Christmas but people living in Argentina have a different pattern to decorate their house. Argentineans decorate their living rooms with beautiful red, white, green and golden flowers. Red and green colored garlands are hung at the doors which gives an aesthetic touch to the houses.
- Mostly people use artificial Christmas trees which are beautifully decorated with balls laces and lights. For decorating the Christmas tree most people prefer applying cotton balls at the branches of the Christmas tree which in order to represent a snow filled Christmas tree.
- There is one unique thing that Argentine people do at the Christmas which is known as ‘pesebre’. The pesebre is always kept close to the beautifully embellished Christmas tree.
Like various other countries in the world Christmas is a time of get together for family and friends. People everywhere in the country visit local churches on the Christmas Eve. People also visit each other’s home and have a joyous family time. Most adults spend time by dancing on Christmas songs whereas kids indulge in fireworks. Actually fireworks are one of the most important features of an Argentinean Christmas because on the Christmas Eve fireworks can be heard all across the country.
The main Christmas dish is a roasted peacock or a suckling pig. The toast which accompanies the food is generally made from fruits which are cut in different pieces. This can be said that Christmas is one of the most enjoyable times of the year for people living in Argentina.
