Christmas in Japan is the Best Time to Express Love

Christmas in Japan is a lot different from those countries where there is a huge population of Christians. People living in Japan are tolerant enough to all religions be it Christianity, Shinto or Buddhism. There are quite less Christians in Japan but Japanese are actually great lovers of celebrations and festivals and is why people celebrate Christmas. Christmas is not a part of Japanese tradition but many multinational companies have brought the festival into the country. Along with the companies the TV media has also played a huge role in making Christmas famous in Japan.

Following are some common ways by which people in Japan celebrate Christmas:

  • The 25th of December is not an official holiday in Japan but people like celebrating the Christmas Eve with a traditional Christmas cake. Generally the father of the family purchases the cake on the way back to home. The cakes are available at a really cheap price because the shopkeepers want to sell off all Christmas cakes on the 25th itself.
  • Another very recent tradition of people living in Japan is having a chicken dinner on 25th of December. The dinner is generally named as Christmas Chicken Dinner. People all across country try and make reservations for the chicken dinner on the Christmas Eve. This is the reason why most Japanese believe that people living in the west celebrate Christmas by having a chicken dinner instead of the traditional turkey dinner.
  • TV media has often hyped Christmas as the time for some romantic miracles and this is the reason why most restaurants are decorated in a beautiful and romantic way. Christmas is thought to be the best time to express your love.
  • People prefer exchanging gifts on Christmas and some of the most common gifts include flowers, teddy bears, scarves, and various other types of jewelry.
  • For older couples there are various hotels and restaurants which host dinner shows. These hotels have invited various actors and singers in order to entertain people. Generally the tickets to these shows are quite expensive because each and everyone want to see their favorite star performing.

People living in Japan like to work hard and party harder and this is the reason why most of them love festivals no matter what religion is it from. Japanese people love to spend time with their loved ones as they think that Christmas is the best time for them to express love.
