It is a classic in the list of Christmas songs. Though the author of the song is not known, the music of the song was composed in the late nineteenth century or early twentieth century.
“The Twelve Days of Christmas”
“The Twelve Days of Christmas” was written sometime in the sixteenth century. It was written in honour of the old Christmas custom according to which you should give 12 gifts to your loved ones. These 12 gifts should be given one each day from the start of Christmas to Epiphany. The lyrics of the song talks of the luxurious gifts like fat geese and golden rings.
“Ave Maria”
This is a sacred Christmas hymns. In fact it is one of the very few sacred hymns that is universally known to people. It is actually a Roman Catholic prayer that was derived from the Bible. “Ave Maria” was originally derived from the biblical scripture, Luke: 1:28. This hymn was orchestrated in 1825 by Franz Schubert. Till date “Ave Maria” is considered to be the most sacred of all hymns.
“Jingle Bells”
You will come across many songs which appeal the adults and some which is appealing to the kids. But there are very few songs which is appealing both to the kids and the adults. “Jingle Bells” is one of them. It has continued to enchant both the audiences. But you will surprised to know that the song was first composed in 1857 as a Thanksgiving song.
