History of Christmas Story House

A Christmas Story House is mark of respect to the movie A Christmas Story released in year 1983. This house is situated in Cleveland, Ohio. This was main set of the movie. This house was bought by Brain Jones, a fan of the movie, since his childhood. He bought the house on eBay for $150,000. To make it look exactly the same as the movie, he spend lot of money on the interiors of the house to make it just replica of the movie set.  For this he saw the movie again and again he drew plans of interiors. Also he restored the exteriors of the house as it was in the film. He spend around $247,000 on renovation of the house.

The House Tour and Museum

Jones also purchased a house just across the street and converted it into the museum. It contains various props which were used in the movie. These include Higbee’s window toys, Randy’s snow suit, zeppelin, the chalkboard of Miss Shield’s class room, other costumes, the family car, and various behind scene photos. The house to the left of this museum also has a gift shop. This gift shop has Major award leg lamp and many other movie memorabilia.

This house and the museum were opened to the public in November 2006. All original cast members of the movie A Christmas Story attended the grand opening. During the first weekend approximately 4300 visitors visited the museum. Guided tours are available for everybody. You need to buy ticket for the same. It is free for the kids below 6 years of age.

Through this tour you can take a nice journey of all the scenes and sights of the movie. You also tend to visit the most famous spots of the movie such as backyard where Ralphie fought with Black Bart, bathroom where Ralphie’s rings helped him to decipher, sink beneath which Randy the little brother hid, and many more.

Visitors have visited the house and the museum from various states and countries including England, Chine, Germany, Australia, Swizerland, Netherlands, Sweden, Mexico, Ireland, and  Thailand to name a few. With so much popularity all around the Christmas Story House has reached a great milestone. Till now the Christmas Story House and the Museum have had around 100,000 visitors.

The house is open year round for visitors except on the Thanksgiving Day, Easter, Christmas, 31st December, and 1st January.
