City of Christmas

Every city has its own special way to celebrate the birth of Our Savior. But can you believe that there a city devoted completely to Christmas? Well, yes, Keokuk city in Iowa is the Christmas city!

Christmas City

City of Christmas was established in 1989. Now it is in its 21st year. The decorations are provided by the local residents and it is open to public from last week of November through Christmas. The sights include:

A nativity scene
Santa’s Toyland
Santa’s elves at work
Santa’s barn with the reindeers
International Christmas

All these are on display at the Rand Park for an entire month. The Christmas city prides itself at its collection which are funded and built by the locals. Huge no. of visitors flock this city during Christmas.

Gold City

Speaking of Christmas City will definitely remind us of the favorite Christmas music group, the Gold City. The band was started in 1980 with Dallas Gilliland, Bob Oliver, Jerry Ritchie and Ken Trussell. Later the band members sold the name to another set of musicians namely: Tim Riley, Ivan Parker, Brian Free, and Gary Jones who remained the Gold City band till the mid 1990s. Their best hits were ‘I Think I’ll Read It Again’, ‘No Other Word for Grace but Amazing’ and ‘Midnight Cry’.

City on a Hill

In 2000 the various artists belonging to the genre Contemporary Christian music, released an album with the name ‘City on a hill: Songs of Worship and Praise’. Next addition to this series was the ‘City on a hill: It’s Christmas Time’ containing famous classic Christmas songs such as Silent night, It’s Christmas Time, Away in a manger, etc.

Talking about music groups, City on a hill is a contemporary Christian Rock band from Maine. This band was started in 2004. Present members are: Matt Fletcher, Fred Freeman, John Best, Andrew Follett and Adam Pride.

Christmas Fever in Cities

Going back to Christmas in a city, each city has a central Christmas tree erected every year. The level of fancy and creativity that goes into each is awe-inspiring. Each year the theme differs. Apart from that, there are many other museums and Churches which take pride in their trees which, over a period of time, have become popular attractions. For example, the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.
