Have Fun This Christmas With A Movie On Santa

Santa Claus is a movie which is a 1985 Christmas film starring John Lithgow and Dudley Moore. It is in fact, the last major fantasy film produced by the Paris based father-and-son production team of Ilya and Alexander Salkind. The film was released in North America on November 27, 1985 by tri-star pictures and was directed by Jeannot Szwarc.

Santa Claus movie is a very straight forward, nondenominational attempt to explore the mysteries of Santa Claus. The key objective being-to answer some of the basic questions which many children have about the Santa Claus mythos, like, how Santa’s reindeer fly, how Santa ascends chimneys and how he and his wife made it to the North Pole, among other things.

Now, you should know a bit about the storyline. The film chronicles the origins of Santa Claus who, along with his wife Anya, who toils from being a simple working man to becoming an international icon of the grand festival, Christmas. At the same time, the film also narrates a contemporary story, in which one of Santa’s elves (alternately referred to as the “vandequm” onscreen), a visionary named patch sets out to employ Santa’s toy making on his own. He was unaware of the fact that he might ruin the magic of Christmas in the process.

The sound track was conducted and composed by Henry Mancini, who is a composer of the themes from the Pink Panther and peter gunn, with veteran lyricist and screenwriter Leslie Bricusse who has contributed five original songs. The song It’s Christmas (all over the world) was written by John Hobbs and Bill House with Freddie Mercury in mind. Song- once upon a long ago has been originally composed with the movie in mind.

The 2005 DVD was released by anchor bay entertainment, now popularly known as Starz Home Entertainment, under license from the current owner of the film, Studio Canal.
