Halloween Night is considered to be the night when the ghosts and witches are roaming around freely on earth. Halloween Night is celebrated in most parts of the world, however, every country has its own tradtions and customs related to the Halloween Night. But mostly, it is now celebrated as a joyous festival when people get down to the streets dressed in scary masks and dressed as ghosts and witches. There are theme parties and events where in the streets are decorated with pumpkin lanterns and people are dressed as ghosts and witches. Halloween Night is mostly popular in U.S and Britain.
Halloween in Sweden is mostly a quite affair. In fact, All Saints Day is considered more of a celebration that Halloween Night here. Halloween is known as “Alla Helgons Dag” in Swedish .Unlike a 2 day affair, Halloween in Sweden begins on the 31st of October and ends on the 6th of November. However, this is more in honour of All Saints Day. Sweden has now slowly opened to the concept of Halloween parties and get together. In the past decade, the youngsters and teenagers have taken a liking to the Halloween Festival. Though, there are no public holidays, most schools have their autumn breaks during this period. Sweden faces a really gloomy climate during this period; hence, teenagers have really started enjoying Halloween as a welcoming break during these gloomy days.
There are no such Sweden Customs or Traditions .However, there have been a few interesting observations made during Halloween in Sweden: -
- Sweden has taken a great liking to the Pumpkin’s Lantern or as we known it Jack O’ Lantern.A lot of homes fill their pathway and lobbies with beautiful Pumpkin Lanterns. The light really adds life to the gloomy, dark climate.
- Halloween Parties are very popular among youngsters and teenagers. Most college and school kids have their autumn break during the Halloween Period. Hence, Halloween Night Parties have become very popular. Youngsters dress as ghosts and witches and play games.
- The kids in Sweden are slowly making the trick or treat activity popular in Sweden. Most of the schools promoted Halloween Events in School. Most teachers make an effort to educate kids about the concept of Halloween and organize scary games for them. Kids dress up as ghosts and wear masks and also enjoy special Halloween sweets.
Sweden is still new to the concept of Halloween or rather to the concept of celebrating Halloween. Though, most people know it as the day when evil spirits roam around freely, they are still opening to the idea of Halloween being a joyous festival celebrated in honour of the dead.
