Learn More About New Zealand Christmas Traditions

Christmas is a holiday for everyone when people want to celebrate with their near and dear ones and enjoy themselves to the full. They want to go around and meet people they have not met since long and share and enjoy the festival with them. This is a time when people from different places re-connect and have fun. Usually what we do is write letters and these letters are considered as gifts to the people for whom we care. But actually there are a lot of things in Christmas which are beyond the act of sending gifts. New Zealand Christmas traditions are famous all over the world.

The most famous tradition there is to have a parade where they carry torches. A lot of people get themselves involved there. Initially it starts with around 50 – 60 people but as it continues more and more people join it and become a part of the world famous parade.

Christians all over the world lit candles as they thought that it is a symbol of Jesus Christ. All of them lit candles at their window as they thought that the Christ child was wandering in search of some place to rest and spend a night in the chilly winters. So they believed that he can come to their place to stay and find peace.

They are specially lighted as the Christians believe that the candles symbolize that you have won and there is light all around and no darkness. There is a feeling of warmth by lighting the candles and the chill of the winter fades away slowly. They also believe that the community people have won over the isolation of so many people around.

There are special Christmas trees which are placed all around the corner and are decorated so beautifully that they are one of the major attractions during the festive season. Be it any shopping place, a shop, at the road side or at homes, you can find some beautiful decorated Christmas trees all around the corner.  There are a lot of carols also which are sung during Christmas. Small girls come to the doors during the Christmas season and sing a lot of Christmas carols and ask for clothes, food and some other stuff which they may find useful.
