However, now-a-days, it is celebrated as a joyous festival. In the olden days, people used to get together and set up a bon fire. The fire is an integral part of Halloween Night. It was believed that light was the only thing that was more powerful that dark ,evil spirits ,hence ,people used to spend Halloween Night s around a bon fire to keep themselves safe from the evil . As time went by, interesting traditions and games were added to this get together. Apple Bobbing is one of the most popular traditions of Halloween. It is primarily a British Tradition. Apple Bobbing is played in two popular ways .  These are :-

Apple Bobbing Tradition 1 : In the olden days, Apple was a fruit that was associated with love and fertility. In this tradition, Apples were placed in a tub full of water. Since Apples are less dense than water, they float; hence it is not easy to get a bite of an Apple. Each girl used to then try taking a bite of an Apple placed in the tub.  It was believed that the girl who got the first bite would eventually be the first one to get married.

Apple Bobbing Tradition 2: This is more of new –age tradition. Since the tubs got small in size, it was easier to get a bite of the apple. Hence, the game was modified. The apples are placed the same way in a smaller tub full of water. Only now, each person will peel only the skin of the Apple and throw it behind their back. Each person gets 3 opportunities to peel the skin. The letter that forms from the peeled skin is considered as the first letter with which the future’s lover’s name will begin. In many cases, if a particular shape or picture is formed, then it would describe the future lover’s face for e.g. a long peel of apple skin could mean a long nose or a short apple peel skin would mean a short nose. If a triangle is formed, it would mean that a love triangle is predicted for the future etc.

Apple Bobbing is one of the oldest traditions of Halloween Night. To Play Apple Bobbing on Halloween Night is also considered very auspicious.
