Sausages on Christmas Breakfast
On Christmas morning when mother gives Sausage Casserole, it just makes our day. The homemade breakfast sausage is a favourite of all time and everyone in the family, specially the kids. These sausages can be made at the night time and baked in the morning before serving.
The ingredients for the sausage casserole are, a pound of any type of sausage (pork or chicken as per your choice), 2 cups of milk, 4 raw eggs, 6 slices of bread ( toast the bread and break into small pieces), half pound cheddar cheese (shredded), 1 spoon dry mustard, and half spoon of salt.
The method of preparing sausage casserole starts with cooking it on a medium heat over the stove. You need to crush the sausage pieces while cooking. When you feel that the sausages are little brown and tender remove it from the heat. Now take a deep medium size bowl and add eggs, milk, salt and mustard powder. Mix the ingredients well. Once done, add the crushed and cooked sausages, bread crumbs, and cheese in the mixture and mix well. You need to mix all the ingredients in such a way that the milk and egg mixture coats the rest of the stuff. Now take a baking dish and grease it. Add the prepared mixture in the baking dish and keep it in the refrigerator for about 6 to eight hours to set. The best idea would be to do the preparation in the night and keep the mixture for the complete night and do the rest of the cooking in the morning. In the morning take out the baking tray from the refrigerator and keep it aside. Now preheat the oven at 175 degree Celsius. Keep the baking tray inside the oven and cook for about 40 mins to 1 hour. While you are baking, initially the tray should be covered and after 45 mins remove the cover and bake the sausage casserole for another 30 mins. Now you can take out the casserole and let it cool down for 10 mins and serve hot.
