Teach Teens about Christ with an Easter Drama

Teenagers are not much concerned about the religious aspect of any occasion. They are young and hence are predominantly concerned with the fun and cheerfulness of the occasion. Hence, there knowledge of their own culture and traditions are limited and until and unless the elders of the family teach the about the significance of an occasion, they do not really find any interest in the traditions if they are told to follow them. Because, just following the rituals and traditions is not enough, they should also be explained that why are they told to do certain things and it is best assimilated by them when the teaching is done in an interesting manner, and has the same dosage of fun.

  • Importance: Teenagers usually look forward to Easter because of the events like egg hunts and the assortment of cookies and chocolates that they would be treated to. Very young children are escorted by their parents, but teenagers have a certain degree of independence about them and they also take this opportunity to spend time with their friends. In such a case, the best way to get them involved would be to stage a play and get them to participate with their friends. In that way, they will also have the company of their friends and it will also solve the purpose of letting them know about the miracles and life of Christ. So if the Easter hunt is organized in the morning, then the play would be a nice way to end the evening, followed by yummy feast- the prize for their efforts.
  • Planning: The build up to the drama would itself be very entertaining, with all the preparations going on. Since they are quite capable of handling things themselves, it will also give them a sense of responsibility to be a part of something so important. Adult guidance is of course necessary, but the fundamental things associated with the play could be done by them, like making invitation cards for the audiences, calling up their relatives, making props, decorating the stage etc. if you are planning a larger audience, then professional help can also be brought in.

Since, the drama will be basically done by children, no one will expect an unflawed performance, but imagine the pleasure of the audiences or the kids themselves when they do deliver such a performance! Since it’s an Easter play, the play should focus predominantly on the life and last days of Christ. A good script is essential to the drama, and you can adapt from the various versions of Easter plays available.
