Tips To Preparing Healthy Meals

Although we all wish to stay healthy unfortunately very few of us actually take steps to do so. In the everyday hustle-bustle of life, we end up making unhealthy choices when it comes to food. Either we are in a hurry to get to work or we are too tired at the end of the day to prepare a healthy meal. The first step to eating healthy is learning to eat right. Very often we are not even aware of what is good for our bodies and what may cause harm. Children too must be informed about the benefits of eating healthy meals. Arrange for a family discussion and find out whether every member of the household is keen to eat at least one healthy meal during the day. More important than the meal is that such an occasion gives everyone the opportunity to interact with each other and share each other’s experiences throughout the day.

There are some tips that you can follow when you want to make a healthy meal:

  • Buy whatever is to be cooked fresh from the market, be it vegetables or meat products.
  • Chicken meals usually take the least time for preparation. While you may use the wings to make soup, the fleshy parts can be baked in the oven with chopped vegetables and spices.
  • For the vegetarians, an easy to make quick meal is the pasta which is a huge favorite with the children. Pasta when prepared with some tomato gravy, cheese and onions is bound to be both finger licking and healthy.
  • Eggs are a great alternative especially good for the children that are both economical and ideal for making fast healthy and delicious meals. Fried eggs with tomatoes or onions and accompanied by rice or bread can be a nutritious meal.
  • Fish based meals that are low in calorie content like grilled tuna steaks served with salad or salmon cooked with asparagus that may be served with sautéed or boiled vegetables make tasty and healthy meal options.
  • For those who are not too fond of eating fish, chicken and turkey are good alternatives. These cooked with rice and steamed vegetables can make very healthy meals.
  • Vegetarian meals are obviously healthy because the meat element is absent here. You can simply stir fry the vegetables of your choice, or prepare a tasty curry to eat with rice or a vegetable soup. If you are keen to eat cheese you may even prepare macaroni or spaghetti with vegetables.
  • When it comes to desserts too you can make them healthy yet delicious enough to satisfy your sweet cravings. Fruit salads, yoghurts topped with assorted fruits and jellies are tasty yet not that rich in calories.
