Travelling on Christmas Eve or Christmas day?
For most people with busy schedule cannot seem to be travelling to their homes earlier than the very last day of Christmas. Also the flight fares are sky high because of the festive rush. But you’ll be surprised to find that travelling on Christmas day is actually less chaotic and most hassle free.
Which is better?
Christmas day. Christmas Eve travel can be one big chaos! People are trying to get to their destinations and prices are rocketing. But on the day of Christmas the planes are half empty, the flight attendants are in a good mood, airports are deserted and prices are very, very low!
Christmas Eve could be better option if you want to be with your family on the day of Christmas. This is a good option if you don’t mind the crowd and bit of extra money. Best would be to book in advance. And if you cannot book early and still want to make it cheap, Christmas day is the answer.
But flying on Christmas day has its own disadvantages. Once you arrive at your destination, most shops are closed. Not much dinner options. And you might not even get a ride from airport. Check if your hotel has an attached restaurant which actually serves food and that too at normal price. So plan carefully and avoid Christmas Eve travel. But of course, if you are flying to you family, then somebody will always be there to give you food, water and warmth!
What else is special on Christmas Eve?
Santa Claus! Yes, on Christmas Eve Santa begins his Christmas Eve travel from north-pole and distributes gift. With advancement in technology you can view Santa’s trip using GPS. Well, not exactly, but your child will have fun looking at the videos available at North American Aerospace Defense Command’s (NORAD) Santa website: noradsanta.org.
The video shows Santa’s movement in different cities in real time. So you can let your kid watch that and tell them to go and sleep quietly before Santa comes. Also you can make it even more real by preparing reindeer food and goodies for Santa.
The rituals of Santa’s trip differ in each country. In Poland, Santa brings gifts on Dec 6th and Angels do that on 25th.
So taking a cue from this, fly early and fly on the 25th. That’s the best you can get during Christmas.
