Firstly, it is very important to study the face structure of the person who will be allotted as your model or the kids who are willing to get their face painted.

Remember you need to accentuate his/her features or rather make his/her features look larger. For e.g. oval face will look larger or even more oval if you paint the eyes into oval shaped huge eye balls.

If it is an oval face, paint oval forms of skull faces. If it is wide or square, stretch lines and paint horizontal forms of Skull face like stretching lines.

Painting the lips and the area underneath the eye completely black looks almost scary on every face type.
Most people completely ignore the white colour which is considered to be just a base colour. However, the effect of black will be much more effective if you apply the white colour properly. Most importantly ,you need to let the white colour dry properly. This will further accentuate the black colour on top of it.
