Work Christmas Party

Christmas can be a fantastic occasion to bring together office colleagues. It is a normally accepted fact that Christmas is celebrated in offices or any work place at least one week in advance. For, Christmas means great vacation time so therefore; plan the party to ensure that every colleague revels on the occasion.

It is a normal practice to celebrate Christmas on the last day of the office before the vacation commences. Under such circumstances, work Christmas party is organized on Fridays, sometime in the afternoon or the night. This flexibility of timing has to be decided by the office management in consultation with the rest of the staff and if there is no consensus, then it is better to organize the work Christmas party after obtaining the due permission of the management.

Choose a big hall or a convention center within the office premises to accommodate all members of the staff. Make sure that there is sufficient space for everyone to move around in the hall and do not clutter or over crowd the hall with unnecessary arrangements of furniture. Keep options open to play games and organize entertainment programs. Make sure that there is a proper Christmas tree, so fetch a tree of moderate size and place it in the middle of the convention hall. The size of the tree should be in proportion with the size of the convention hall. Make sure it matches the space. Do not bring either a large Christmas tree or a small Christmas tree. It should be of optimum size. Engage the entire work staff in decorating the tree. Give chance to people, who love to decorate the tree so that it’d be fun for the guests too.

Here are some quick tips for a Work Christmas Party:

1: Select a date, time, and place. Decide whether it will be an after-office party, catered event, or at a restaurant or country club. You can’t please everyone, so don’t even try. If you plan for early in the month, you will run into less conflict. The closer you get to Christmas, the more difficult it will be to settle on date. Pick three days and circulate a flyer around the office and settle on a date with the least conflict.

2: Find out who will be paying the bill. If the company is provides everything then no issues with the party but find out what the budget is? If the employees are paying for part of the festivities, including the entertainment, do your math accordingly. Some companies allow the employee to go free, but must pay for their spouse or significant other. Find out the policy and plan accordingly.

3: Secure the entertainment. After you set the date and decide on how much you can spend, then you can determine how much you will have left for entertainment, whether it’s a band, comedian or magician. Make sure you get a lot of recommendations first, like if u hired a comedian and there were no laughs, it was horrible and everyone blamed the meeting planner.

4: Plan some games and fun activities. A great one is for everyone to bring a baby picture of themselves (make sure the name is written clearly on the back of the photo), number each one, and place them on an easel board. Have a first, second, and third prize available for the most correct answers. Murder mystery games are also popular, so determine which would be more appropriate for your group.

5: If it is a special occasion (for example the anniversary of the company), consider having a separate committee work on an appropriate gift. If it’s a scrapbook album, it will take some planning to get all the pictures organized.

6: Decide whether alcohol will be served and whether it’s a free bar or cash only bar. Many companies have gone to “alcohol free” parties during the holidays. Be sure to find out your company’s protocol.

7: Inclement weather clause. In the Northeast, we have to plan accordingly for icy roads and snowstorms. Make sure you have plan B in place and select an alternate date if appropriate.

The Christmas party is the highlight of the year, so you can make it memorable for everyone by following these simple tips. Have lots of fun and good cheer this Christmas.
